Journey Home

Producers: Kari Amarosso & Krisanna Sexton

“We’re all...one bad decision away from where they are.”
This film takes you inside a women’s jail in Arizona.
With rare access, inmates and their family members tell their stories of heartache, pain, joy and triumph, and share how one program has forever changed their lives.

Colleen Jennings-Roggensack knew she wanted to help inspire incarcerated women to create a better life for themselves and their children. After years of asking prisons and jails all over Arizona, a women’s jail in Phoenix finally said yes - and “Journey Home” was born.

This work has developed over the years into a four-week intensive program focused on empowering women through creative writing, storytelling, movement and visual arts. As Teniqua Broughton so beautifully says in film,
“These are human beings. They are not monsters. They are people who look like me and you.”

This powerful program is only made possible by the generous support of those who believe in it.
